Always the pet favourite of the girls out there, the high heel can be a defining element in a lady’s wardrobe. But how much do we know about how they came about?

Heels have existed a lot longer then many of us would have guessed; evidence of their existence goes back as far as Egyptian times-the upper classes would wore them as they were made in such way as to appear to look like the ‘Ankh’ the symbol of life. There is also evidence of them dating from the Roman and Greek Era, showing that they were fairly widespread early on in history. when the Duke or Orleans married Catherine of the Medici family in 1533 and Catherine wore heels at the time, starting a fashion trend (although heels were not properly developed until around the 1580s or so) Mary Tudor wore heels as much as possible as she was a rather short woman!
